Our Story
My family's ties with the tea industry go back 4 generations. My great grand father was a manager of a tea garden in upper Assam and my grandfather became manager after him. Due to the many hardships my grandfather had endured, he discouraged my father and his siblings from working in the tea industry. Instead of fulfilling his boyhood dream of becoming a tea taster, my father joined academia and became a Professor in Geology at a local university in Assam.
Since I grew up in a city in Assam far away from the tea gardens, my earliest recollections of tea are the stories my father used to tell me and my siblings about his childhood growing up in a tea estate and being surrounded by the culture of tea. These stories came alive many years later when my wife and I visited the tea estate that my father grew up in. The beauty of the tea plantation surrounded by rolling hills was mesmerizing! After my wife and I got married, we started a ritual of drinking tea together during breakfast and as we started visiting India, we came to discover my father's many tea stores and merchants from whom my father procures his tea, some of the best Assam tea you could buy in India. During each trip to Assam, we started bringing back with us loose black tea from various tea estates in Assam. Once we got back home to the US, we started experimenting by blending different types of tea - Orthodox and CTC Assam teas, Darjeeling teas, along with tea from Sri Lanka, Japan and China that we had bought from online tea stores in the US. Every day for breakfast, we would be drinking a different type of tea - some single estate, while others as blends. Eventually, what started as a hobby of blending different teas for breakfast started turning into a passion for tea, leading us down the path of opening a tea business.
Our primary motivation for starting a tea business is to provide to our customers the same high quality teas that my wife and I have been enjoying for many years, utilizing the many connections my family has developed over many generations and the ones we have started to develop on our own. We would love our customers to develop their own tea rituals, whether on their own or with loved ones. Whether you drink tea as a pick me up in the morning or to relax in the afternoon, let's start creating memories together!
